for the party or the best candidate? I get the impression from reading some post, that some people wouldn't vote for a Democrat/Republican if hell
froze over.
I've never understood why people voted for the party and not the candidate and his/her position on things.
I lean more to the Republican side but if I believed the candidate for the Democrats was the best person for the job of president......then that is who I'd
vote for.
I'm interested in how you vote.....for the candidate or the party? Honestly.

I try to decide which thumb to slam in a door.
Either way.........it's going to hurt....... I've vote for the person. Especially on the local level where you might have a chance to really know them, and what they say is real. The sock puppets on TV, do as they're told by their handelers. Liars, cheats, and theives.........go into politics, or sell insurance......

I try to vote for the candidate best suited for the job according to my assessment of what is needed. I tend to support office-seekers who exhibit a
libertarian stance on issues of public policy while avoiding the "entitlement" morass that often entangles the Democrats and the elitist special
interests that mark Republican preferences. But truly independent-minded people rarely seek public office because they are not agenda-minded and quickly run
afoul of the entrenched turf-tenders.

I would probably vote republican or democrat all across the board depending which party I voted for.
Did you think it is best to have a republican congress if we have a republican for president and democrat congress if we have a democrat for president,

Historically, the most productive governments have been those in which the Congress and White House are held by different parties. This forces compromise, which is how representive democracies best work. A government dominated for great lengths of time by either party is a poor fit for our country because power that has stood the test of time tends to become unaccountable and out of control. Widge |

If I had the power to make two changes to the government, they would be these:
(1) I'd abolish the Electoral College and erect a fairer, more representative system that respects the principles of the one-person-one-vote concept. (2) I'd permit only a single term of office for the president, but lengthen it from four years to six. In my view, these changes would make governance a smoother, fairer process. Widge |

I agree with your first suggestion Widge....but I don't get what you are saying in the second. Are you saying they could only be elected once but for 6
years instead of 4? If you are I'm not sure about 6 years. That's a long time....but if they are re-elected it is 8 years.

Yes. Presidential second terms have historically been prone to dysfunction and corruption. I say, let 'em have one good shot at it, and then make them get the hell out to allow fresh ideas in. Four years is not enough time for a president to accomplish a lasting legacy of achievement, but eight years spread over two terms is often too much time as well as an inducement to bad behavior.
